Colombian Snapper

There are some remarkable dishes from the Colombian coast such as rice with coconut, a sweet combination that charms everyone who tries it. However, It must be served with its faithful companion, Fried Snapper.

Snapper, Tilapia and Mojarra are some of the most requested fish by diners due to its exquisite flavor. The most traditional way to eat the infamous snapper is fried, the result is a crispy and golden texture on the outside while buttery on the inside. It is also prepared stuffed with seafood and stewed in coconut milk.

The traditional presentation of the dish is the whole fish accompanied with salad, rice with coconut and patacones (sliced green bananas) crushed and fried where in other countries they are known as tostones. Snapper is also often accompanied with pieces of fried cassava and avocado. It is truly a delight and for that reason it is offered in many restaurants on the coast.

Taking a look back to the culinary influences of Colombia, rice and plantain were introduced foods into the local gastronomy but Snapper is an authentic native fish. Long before the arrival of the Spaniards, this delicacy had made its mark on the local cuisine.
