Tequila and Mexico go hand-in-hand, as Tequila is the most representative drink of the gastronomy of Mexico and Denomination of Origin since 1978. To learn further about Tequila, we take off on the Ruta del Tequila (Tequila Route).
Within the framework of the Ruta del Tequila guests will learn firsthand the production chain of of tequila, the agents involved in its development and what are the most delicate phases that make up this process until the product reaches the final consumer.
The Tequila Route begins its journey in the capital of Jalisco, Guadaladaja, passing through the municipalities of Tapalpa, Mazamitla and Laguna de Chapala. But without a doubt, the most important region of the tour is the town of Tequila, which gives its name to the famous drink. In fact, in 1978 the "Tequila Denomination of Origin" was instituted.
Throughout the tour, you will enjoy beautiful landscapes and the colonial architecture of three magical towns: Tequila, Tapalpa and Mazamitla. During your visit to the Magical Town of Tequila (recognized as such by the Tourism Secretariat of Mexico) guests will enter the agave fields, a plant from which the juice is obtained with which to make the tequila and will experience the production process while visiting different distilleries in the region.
In addition, you will have the opportunity not only to sample tequila and its different varieties, but you can also try the traditional Tequila dishes.
In its passage through Tapalpa, a mountainous town dedicated mainly to agriculture and livestock, the traveler will also have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture and gastronomy of the area, tasting its best-known dish, borrego al pastor (Sheppard style lamb)
In Mazamitla, you will discover the beautiful natural landscapes of El Chacal and Cerro del Tigre. In regard to gastronomy, it is very diverse: pulque stew (milky, fermented alcoholic beverage), wheat gorditas, sweet potato or capirotada (Mexican bread pudding).
To end the Tequila Route, tourists will visit Lake Chapala, the largest water reserve in Mexico. Chapala is only one hour from Guadalajara and is characteristic for its gastronomic wealth: michi broth, charales (small fish), catfish or birria de carp (slow cooked goat).
